Jono Dry, graphite drawings and prints
A self-taught hyperrealist who spends months on a single sheet of pencil
Specimen · 2026-10-17 carbon · K89
Jono Dry works graphite until the paper passes for a photograph: the creases of a knuckle, the fibers of an iris, the bark of a bonsai rooted in an open palm. The South African artist is self-taught, and he usually leaves out the background, so each figure hangs in black like something on a stage. One large drawing can take him six months.
His 2026 print drop gathers ten works, among them Encircle, Balance, In Its Grip and Eye 2025, Nesting in Detail, as giclée scans on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. Each comes in a signed, numbered edition of 50, from $650 at A1 to $1,850 at the largest size. Two pencil originals on Arches paper are still available, at $2,100 each.
